Meet Our Clergy, Staff and Board

Rabbi Barry Kenter

My late grandmother-in-law taught her children and grandchildren, “An apple is sweeter when shared.” How much truer is it of Congregation Habonim. One of the true gems of Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Habonim represents the best of an intergenerational community, from newborns to some who have been with us since our founding in 1939. Habonim relishes the intimacy of worship, enhanced opportunities for sharing significant life-cycle moments, and a scrumptious Shabbat Kiddush luncheon each and every week. How sweet it is to see young children and older adults sharing warm moments of shared joy—the happiness of children being relished for who they are and might yet become, and the delight of their elders attuned to the sound of children’s voices in services and at Kiddush. Here is a community where clergy, staff, and children share the same physical space virtually every day. I invite you to stop in, visit, and share your stories with us. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to meeting you. Learn more about Rabbi Kenter here.

Welcome from President Neil Goldstein

Elaine Witkoff

On behalf of Congregation Habonim I am pleased to extend a hearty greeting.  Our mission and goal is to provide a Jewish spiritual home for members and our community and to provide an environment in which we can learn and grow and share important life-cycle events, knowing that we are joined and supported by a caring community in a warm and welcoming environment.

This is also an excellent opportunity for our non-member families to get to know us and to become familiar with our family and children's programming.
