S'LICHOT SERVICE and screening of the film Paper Clips

S'lichot offers a unique opportunity to deepen our preparation for the High Holy Days. Join us this Saturday, September 21 at 7:40 pm to say goodbye to Shabbat and welcome the new week with Havdalah, followed by a collation sponsored by Ellen Mendel and screening of the film Paper Clips. The acclaimed documentary tells the story of middle school students in Tennessee who set out to collect six million paper clips to represent the Jewish lives lost in the Holocaust.

The evening will conclude with the S'lichot service, raising up in our awareness the inspiring melodies of the High Holy Day season. Come to be with the community. Come to think about what returning to one's truest self really means. Come to remember the melodies which will saturate our time together as we welcome the new year beginning with Rosh Hashanah, Sunday, September 29.

Dear Friend of Habonim,

We hope you enjoyed a much well-deserved rest this summer. Here at Habonim we are busily planning for the High Holidays beginning on September 29th and culminating ten days later with the observance of Yom Kippur. It is during this time that we reflect back on our past deeds, both individually and as a community. We petition God for forgiveness so that we can enter the new year with a clean slate and focus on mending our shortcomings through Teshuvah (repentance), Tefilah (prayer), and Tzedakah (charity) ...
