Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, commemorates the pogrom against the Jews of Germany November 9, 1938. On Friday night, November 11, we will mark Kristallnacht with a speaker from one of the premier Jewish humanitarian assistance organizations, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). Since 1914, JDC has exemplified that all Jews are responsible for one another and for improving the well-being of vulnerable people around the world. During Shabbat services, Rick Hirschhaut, Senior Director of External Relations for JDC, will address the topic: “Commemorating Kristallnacht: Echoes of the Past, Lessons for Today.” Dinner will follow.

We commemorate Kristallnacht out of memory and respect, and because commemorating teaches us about the process of genocide and how it evolves and, most important, the need to stand up against hateful words and actions before they become something much worse. We hope you can join us.

Congregation Habonim is located at 103 West End Avenue, at the corner of 64th Street.
