Admissions Tours

Admissions Tours are an important part of our admissions process.  Tours begin at 9:00 am with a meeting in our school library, during which time Cindy Grebow will give a brief overview of our school, including our history, our educational philosophy, and our classes and age groupings, and will describe a typical day at Habonim. Following this introduction, parents will be given a tour of each classroom and all other Nursery School facilities.  At the conclusion of the tour, parents have ample opportunity to ask questions.  Plan to be at Habonim for approximately two hours. For a list of tour dates click here

Parent Panel for Prospective Parents

All parents applying to the Nursery School at Habonim for the 2011-2012 school year are invited and encouraged to attend a Parent Panel for Prospective Parents on Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.  Hosted by current Nursery School parents, this is a wonderful opportunity for parents considering our school to meet and hear from parents who have been part of our school community in an open forum without the presence of Nursery School administration.  Thus, not only will you have the chance to ask questions freely, but you will also be able to get a sense of Habonim, and what it means to be a part of this school, synagogue, and community.  Opening remarks will be made by Cindy Grebow, Nursery School Director, Rabbi Katzan, and Louise Fay, School Psychologist, after which the evening is turned over to current and prospective parents!

Play Visits

Starting in January, 2011, once applications have been received and parents have taken a tour of the school, each child is scheduled for a one-on-one play visit with their parent or parents and Cindy Grebow, Nursery School Director. These visits take place in January and February, 2011.  You will be contacted by Roy Ramsey to arrange a play visit appointment.

Play visits at Habonim are designed with your child’s ease and comfort in mind.  You and your child will have the opportunity to play with and speak to Cindy Grebow in one of our Nursery School classrooms.  Each visit lasts for approximately 20 minutes.  When you arrive at Habonim for your visit, you will be greeted by a member of our teaching staff who will give your child a snack and answer your questions.

Early Notification Program

The Nursery School at Habonim is a member of the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY).  As a member in good standing, we offer parents who are current members of Congregation Habonim for a minimum of one year, the option to participate in our Early Notification Program.  Eligible parents will receive a letter informing them of this program in early December, 2010, and they will be notified about their child’s admission status no later than Friday, January 28, 2011.

For all other parents, notification letters will be mailed on Tuesday, March 1, 2011.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available for children three years and older through our Clara Zeitlin Scholarship Fund.

Final Thoughts about Admissions

The admissions process for nursery school-age children can be overwhelming and stressful for many parents.  At Habonim, please feel free to ask questions, take advantage of opportunities to attend Habonim events, and mingle with current Nursery School families.  We look forward to meeting you!
